Mike Redman’s project ‘DEFORMER’ has been internationally breaking down musical barriers since the early 90’s. DEFORMER is a genre of its own and early on merged hardcore Jungle, Rap and even Death Metal that would later be filed under different sub-genres partly defined by the alias. The music is considered radio-unfriendly, aggressive, dark and unorthodox, a soundtrack for audio outcasts and musical misfits and unique to say the least.
As popular magazine DJ MAG recently accurately stated: ‘DEFORMER operates in a category of one’
In the underground DEFORMER has achieved legendary status for the project’s perpetual reinvention and the incessantly outrageous and shocking horror-themed theatrical performances and record covers, inspiring a new generation of artists and labels. DEFORMER has collaborated with musical giants such as Public Enemy, Vernon Reid, Ice-T, Mike Smith (Suffocation), actor Tony Todd (Candyman) and many others.
Equally as intriguing is the DEFORMER logo which is a six armed ape inspired by the ‘three wise monkeys’ proverb. Where the monkeys originally cover their eyes, ears and mouth, this time around the three monkeys are merged into a single angry ape doing the exact opposite: See, Hear, Scream!
