Xangadix Lives! (2017 Bram Roza, Yfke van Berckelaer) is the critically acclaimed documentary that tells the intriguing story behind Dutch horror film ‘The Johnsons’ (1992). The Johnsons, directed by renowned filmmaker Rudolf van den Berg was one of the largest Dutch productions of 1992. Starring Monique van de Ven, Kenneth Herdigein and introducing the phenomenal Esmée de la Bretonière, the film won international recognition and became a beloved cult classic in the U.S. and Japan, yet failed to make an impact on the Dutch cultural landscape.
Or so it was thought... 25 years later, the documentary Xangadix Lives! shines a new light on the untold story behind the film’s troubled production and the legacy it left behind.
